In the mountain village of San Martino delle Scale, a few kilometres away from Palermo, the monks of the Benedictine Abbey still follow a XIV tradition, whereby they give shelter in a big aviary to the little birds they rescued from the mountain chill, and then free them on Easter Monday so to celebrate the arrival of spring. This delicate spring festival also features an organ concert and Gregorian chants, folk shows and the blessing of flowers.
