The schietti are the bachelors of the town, who, on Easter day, challenge each other in a peculiar competition. They have to raise an orange tree weighing approximately 110 lb, decorated with trinkets and coloured ribbons to the sky, using one arm only,. The tree is then brought around the town streets, and the bachelors stop below the zites’ (fiancées) windows to prove their strength.
