THE PORT – CALA SANTA MARIA
Geographical coordinates: 38º 42’ 92” N 13º 11’ 94” E


The port is protected by a jetty with internal wharfs which originates from the W of the ‘cala’ and is orientated to the NE. The external side and the end of the jetty are encircled by reefs.

Besides the jetty, the port is also made up of a sea-facing wharf and a large wharfed area which affords unlimited mooring for pleasure-boats on the Barresi wharf.

Warning signs:
- A lunar ring and clear visibility towards the south indicate scirocco winds.
- Thread-like cirrus clouds forewarn southern winds.
- Bad weather in the form of a southwest wind is probable when clear atmospheric conditions allow you to see the Aeolian islands.
- Cumulonimbus clouds to the NW are indicative of winds coming from the west.

Entry to the port is unlimited and, when approaching, keep your distance and reduce your speed.
The sea bottom is sandy and rocky with depths of between 4 to 6m.

Facilities:
The quayside is illuminated and the port has drinking water, petrol pumps, a mobile crane and payphones.

Lighthouse and lights:
A lighthouse with white flashes, 3 grps every 15 seconds, range 25 nm on Punta Omo Morto to the NE of the island; intermittent red light every 5 seconds, range 9 nm from a window in the lighthouse; lighthouse with white flashes, 4 grps every 12 seconds, range 13 nm on Punta Gavazzi, SW of the island. A fixed, red light, 2 vertical, range 3 nm on the jetty head.
